About the process

From flat sheet to a three-dimensional part

Deep drawing turns a flat sheet metal blank into a three-dimensional shape. The press and tool form the depth, walls and transitions. Depending on the part, several drawing stages may be needed.

A section view shows depths, radii and transitions that are not visible from the outside. Assessment covers dimensions critical to fit, visible surfaces and the final edge shape. Feasibility depends on geometry, material and tooling.

Frequently asked questions

Why is a section view needed?

A section shows the depth, transitions and radii that may not be clear from an external view. It helps assess the forming process and tooling requirements.

Can any shape be deep drawn?

Feasibility depends on the geometry, material and tooling. Identify dimensions that are functionally fixed and areas where changes are possible so a practical solution can be considered.
